Cognitive & Behavioural Psychotherapy or CBT is
supported by over 3 decades of clinical research trials
that demonstrate significantly improved outcomes when
compared to other forms of psychological talking
therapies, for a range of problems. However, NHS waiting
lists for CBT are at an all time high and in some areas
waiting lists stand at 9 months, if available at all1.
People are inevitably denied treatments that can make a difference to their lives, either due to long waiting lists or the erosion of primary mental health care in the NHS.
However, User Friendly Psychiatry provides CBT for people who wish to seek treatment without the long wait. We operate an open referral system and we have a range of accomplished associate specialists who can deliver treatments where and when you need them. User Friendly Psychiatry has significant experience in providing CBT for a range of problems, including:
UFP believe in a local focus and we provide CBT, with centralised case management within specific geographical boundaries to maintain an understanding of local geographies and local cultures. Our therapists focus on the therapy and we provide a steady flow of information. It is this local focus which enables us to provide therapists as near to the individuals' home as is possible. Unlike larger nationally based companies, we posses an acute local awareness and where possible we can source a therapist close by.
Here at UFP we believe users of our service come first and we re-invest for the benefits of our users. We have established a unique secure online resource available to all users receiving our services. Individuals can access self help materials as part of their therapy package via this online resource.
We only use accredited CBT therapists who possess wide clinical experience and registration with a core profession (ie. Mental health nursing, psychology, occupational therapy, social work, psychiatry), this ensures robust accountability and an evidence based effective service.
We are also trained in the delivery of complex interventions for people with psychosis and their families. If you are a local mental health provider or NHS commissioner, please feel free to discus your requirements with us.
“I didn’t expect this therapy to give me the results I have experienced so quickly. I had got used to living with anxiety as part of my every day life, but didn’t realise how deep-rooted it was. The therapy helped me to see it for what it is – as one way of thinking, not something to be feared. I know I will still have to continue the battle, but the therapy has given me the tools to fight it and the belief that I can do it. Although the therapy was hard-going because it was challenging my thinking, I felt that it was mostly about learning – about myself and about how to think differently. I had to put the effort in, and at times it was hard, but it was me who did the work, not the therapist. That has given me more confidence in myself now that the therapy is over. The therapist was thorough and sympathetic and she understood my issues. Having the website to log onto and download my own worksheets was helpful too. I would recommend this form of therapy to anyone – it has allowed me to be free again! Thank you”

“I had been struggling to cope with a highly stressful working environment for a long time, as a result my confidence had suffered and I was experiencing anxiety attacks. User Friendly Psychiatry sessions gave me practical skills for coping with anxiety and helped me to get everything into perspective and rebuild my confidence.”

“I thought the sessions were excellent and just wish I’d had a bit more time out of time with my therapist to fully engage with all the ‘homework’. I’d have found it useful to be given a ballpark with regard to how long I should have spent outside sessions on activities and reading to make sure I was getting sufficient benefit from this experience. Maybe this would have made me plan in this time better – but nonetheless I found the emphasis on behaviour and the practical strategies for developing more balanced thinking and dealing with strong emotions very helpful. Would have no hesitation in recommending this service or in using again if needed to, its good to know its there.”
