User Friendly Psychiatry

Testimonies

Read what some people have to say about User Friendly Psychiatry:

“I didn’t expect this therapy to give me the results I have experienced so quickly. I had got used to living with anxiety as part of my every day life, but didn’t realise how deep-rooted it was. The therapy helped me to see it for what it is – as one way of thinking, not something to be feared. I know I will still have to continue the battle, but the therapy has given me the tools to fight it and the belief that I can do it. Although the therapy was hard-going because it was challenging my thinking, I felt that it was mostly about learning – about myself and about how to think differently. I had to put the effort in, and at times it was hard, but it was me who did the work, not the therapist. That has given me more confidence in myself now that the therapy is over. The therapist was thorough and sympathetic and she understood my issues. Having the website to log onto and download my own worksheets was helpful too. I would recommend this form of therapy to anyone – it has allowed me to be free again! Thank you”

“When I started therapy, I had very high expectations because I was desperate to solve my problem. The therapy actually exceeded my expectations & and I am a changed person. It not only helped me tackle my problem but I have also applied the CBT techniques to other areas of my life and that has helped me in a lot of different ways.My therapist was fantastic and I can't thank her enough for changing my life for the better!”

“Caroline has helped me enormously; she is both caring and personable, as well as highly professional and evidently good at what she does! I can't recommend her or CBT highly enough. I have found it very effective in dealing with my anxiety and depression, after trying therapies / counselling I can honestly say CBT is the most productive. It really helps to learn realistic skills to change how you feel and make positive changed in your life”

“I would not hesitate to recommend CBT to someone else with similar problems and would specifically be happy to recommend User Friendly Psychiatry. It is obviously not good that the NHS not only fails to make these therapies available – but also offers no guidance on possible treatments [other than drugs] or how to find suitable professionals. ”

“I was a little sceptical at first, having never had anything to do with this type of therapy before. The therapist never offered me a cure to my problems, just a means of understanding them, also dealing with them whenever they occur. I feel the therapy sessions have been a success for me, and have given me the tools that I need to deal with my fears and anxieties. I don't actually feel I did alot myself, but I do feel that I have definately benefitted. It's up to me now to use & practice the tools and techniques that the therapist has shown me. ”

“I got in contact with User Friendly Psychiatry, to try and gain some insight into the world of mental health. My sister has been struggling for many years with depression, self harm and obsessive compulsive disorders. Following a diagnosis for borderline personality disorder, we found that all support and any necessary therapy was withdrawn.

User Friendly Psychiatry provided me with the necessary education to empower me to make health decisions for my sister and to enable us to finally receive the required therapy for her.

I shall be eternally grateful to User Friendly Psychiatry because they listened when nobody else would.”

“I thought the sessions were excellent and just wish I’d had a bit more time out of time with my therapist to fully engage with all the ‘homework’. I’d have found it useful to be given a ballpark with regard to how long I should have spent outside sessions on activities and reading to make sure I was getting sufficient benefit from this experience. Maybe this would have made me plan in this time better – but nonetheless I found the emphasis on behaviour and the practical strategies for developing more balanced thinking and dealing with strong emotions very helpful. Would have no hesitation in recommending this service or in using again if needed to, its good to know its there.”

“I had been struggling to cope with a highly stressful working environment for a long time, as a result my confidence had suffered and I was experiencing anxiety attacks. User Friendly Psychiatry sessions gave me practical skills for coping with anxiety and helped me to get everything into perspective and rebuild my confidence.”

“I was referred to User Friendly Psychiatry by my employer after being diagnosed with anxiety/depression. I had six sessions of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. During these sessions I developed life skills that not only helped deal with the current problems I had, but also to deal with issues I may encounter in the future. I felt that the therapist was a great help to me as I feel more positive towards life and I have a much better understanding of my thoughts and feelings.”

Ema, Lancashire
CBT client referral. - July 2005

“Having suffered a number of episodes of depression in the past, following emotional upsets, I found myself yet again in a pretty bad state. Following a visit to my GP I was prescribed a course of anti-depressants, which did bring me back on track. However, having suffered with depression in the past, this time I wanted to try and sort myself out once and for all. I found that my thoughts and behaviour were affecting the whole of my life and I needed to do something positive about this! I had heard that Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) had a high success rate in combating depression. Having read different research on CBT I decided to give it a go. I found CBT to be highly effective in making me aware of how my negative thoughts can affect my behaviour and in the long-term my whole life! I am so glad I made that ‘phone call to UFP. Caroline is an excellent therapist. She was very supportive and helped me to understand how my negative thoughts affect my behaviour. I am now feeling much more positive about myself and life in general. I am much more carefree and enjoying what life throws at me. Thank you UFP.”
